5 of the Most Memorable Pop Culture Breakups

Breaking up is hard to do. But sometimes it’s inevitable. This Valentine’s Day, we’re bringing you our roundup of the most unforgettable breakups in pop culture history:

Taylor Swift + Joe Jonas

How could we ever forget this one? They were two of the biggest teen popstars at the time. Taylor’s solo career was just taking and off and Joe’s boy band — The Jonas Brothers — was at the height of their fame. Together, they were unstoppable. At least for 4 months. Then Joe reportedly broke up with Taylor in a very swift (see what we did there) 27-second phone call. Ouch! But we did get Forever and Always out of it.

Carrie Bradshaw + Jack Berger (Sex & The City)

Oh the notorious Post-It note breakup. This is why two writers should never date. (We kid). Berger bails on Carrie in the dead of night leaving behind only this horrific note.

Miss Piggy + Kermit:

Talk about right in the childhood — this one hurt. After 40 years of love, the two decided to announce their split in 2015. Shortly after, Kermit was rumored to be connected to a different muppet, Denise — much to the chagrin of the internet. Guess it’s really not easy being green.

Kris Humphries + Kim Kardashian

What could you do in 72 days? Oh maybe get married and realize you’ve made a big mistake. That’s what happened to these two. Even their divorce proceedings lasted longer. Yikes!

Britney Spears + Justin Timberlake

Long before Taylor and Joe, there was Brit and Justin — the ultimate iconic power couple. From their matching denim ensembles to their McDonald’s ad, these two were the height of the golden age of pop music. Justin admits to penning hit single, Cry Me A River, two hours after their breakup. The music video featured a Britney look-alike and strongly suggested that the infidelity displayed was the real reason behind this pop duo’s end. First love is amazing, but first heartbreak definitely takes the cake.
